Typically the plant works in a closed circuit, in a slight depression and is designed for the continuous processing of organic and inorganic products such as diluted or concentrated liquids, sludge, and moist solids (water or solvent basis), regardless of moisture content and viscosity.

The application of VOMM Turbo Technology in the environmental sector foresees a thermal treatment of the product with a combination of conduction and convection heat exchange that guarantees excellent results in terms of energy efficiency, process time, quality and stability of dried product.
The heating source can be a dedicated boiler (natural gas or biogas fired) or waste heat coming from industrial processes or power production equipment.
The drying process is carried out in one single step without back-mixing and without inert gas consumption in full compliance with ATEX European Directives.

VOMM Turbo Technology is applied in the following processes in the environmental sector:

• Drying and Granulation

  Thanks to its remarkable flexibility, VOMM Turbo Technology can treat sludge and wastes with different characteristics to obtain homogeneous products with the desired moisture content. The obtained granules are compact, resistant, non-porous, sanitized and can be transported and handled easily.
  Properties of these granules make the process particularly suitable for treatment of sewage sludge and other organic sludge in energy production (waste to energy plants, cement production plants, biomass to energy plants, etc) or agricultural applications.
  
  Products that can be processed in VOMM Drying and Granulation plants are:
  • municipal sludge (digested or not-digested)
  • industrial sludge (tannery, galvanic, paper, etc)
  • refinery oily sludge
  • organic waste
  • digestate from biogas production
  • hospital waste
  • slaughterhouse and fermentation by-products
  • agroindustrial by-products (chicken manure, etc)
  • biomasses (olive pomace, wine pomace, etc)
  

• Concentration

  VOMM Turbo-Technology is also successfully applied in the concentration processes of water or solvent solution (soap-stocks, refinery or galvanic wastewater, leachate, etc.). The product is discharged as high viscosity liquid or pastry, with an important volume reduction and it can be eventually treated in a second stage in order to obtain a solid product.
  
  Products that can be processed in VOMM Concentration plants are:
  • Refinery oily mud or water
  • Oil drilling mud
  • Leachate
  • Galvanic wastewater
  

• Soil remediation

  VOMM has developed and patented an application of Turbo Technology specific for the extraction of volatile components on polluted soils and another one specific for the neutralization of heavy metals.
  
  VOMM plants can be installed “off-site” or directly “on-site”, in this case the plant is installed directly on the site to be cleaned and the soil is excavated, treated and discharged minimizing the transportation.
  
  Products that can be processed in VOMM Soil remediation plants are:
  • soil polluted with hydrocarbons
  • soil polluted with solvents
  • soil polluted with dioxins
  • soil polluted with heavy metals
  

• Sanitization and Stabilization

  Sludge, organic waste fraction of Municipal Solid Waste and other organic wastes are characterized by high microbiological charge including pathogenic micro-organisms.
  Thanks to multiple thermal shock treatments, VOMM Turbo Technology permits to obtain a “Super- Sanitized” product, stabilized during the time, in full compliance with US-EPA for a Class A unrestricted use in agriculture.
  
  Products that can be processed in VOMM Sanitization and Stabilization plants are:
  • Municipal and industrial sludge

  • Digestate from biogas production

• Thermal valorization

  VOMM experience includes also the Thermal valorization of municipal & industrial sludge and biomass (Turbo Energy process).
  The combined drying+incineration solution is a self sustainable solution, that is using the heat recovered from combustion of sludge/biomass to dry without consumption of fossil fuels.

• Renewable energies

  VOMM and GeoTeck are also active in the renewable energies sector with turn- key solutions for thermal treatment of manure (poultry, cattle, pigs, etc.), slaughterhouse by-products, biomass and digestate.
  “Turbo Energy Process” and “Turbo Bio Process” has been respectively designed for energy production of above mentioned products and for digestate drying for further application (agriculture, composting, energy, etc).
  
  Turbo Energy has the following advantages:
  • Very high volume reduction: ashes can be a few percentage of wet product coming into the plant
  • The energy that is produced is a renewable energy that can benefit of incentives
  • Emissions are low and controlled in line
  • It is possible to recover heat for district heating
  
  Turbo Bio has the following advantages:
  • Very low thermal consumption thanks to the use of waste heat from cogeneration units.
  • Possibility of heat recovery (hot water) to be used for digestion
